I was a true Lost fanatic through the first 2 seasons even after all the repeats but after seeing these past 6 episodes and then getting into Heroes, and Battlestar Galactica, Lost has fallen behind in my eyes. They need to tighten up the scripts, offer more payoffs to viewers waitinmg for some ansers and stop with the new characters from the crash. I have heard from many friends that once they see the Nikki and Paulo backstory that this will be the last show they watch. Their viewers are what's Lost now along with their ratings.

I wholeheartedly agree with Anon. The recipe has changed from Survivors vs. The Island (the smoke monster, the "button", the hatch, etc....) to Survivors vs. Others. So it's gone from a genuine mystery show to a pseudo mystery show (aka a soap opera). The writers have become totally lost with regards to the formula. And it's much less compelling to watch for the audience.

Lost's writing has gotten so piecemeal, I'm about to drop it. If the first two episodes in Jan don't start wrapping up some of the hanging story lines, in the dumpster it goes. Heroes has answered more questions in one episode than Lost does in a whole season. Don't know if they're trying to stretch it out or what, but all you have to do is look at the numbers: They're dropping, and fast. Get it together writers, or you really will get Lost.

I can't stand how everyone judges the entire season based on a small group of episodes that were always intended to be a mini-arc. It's six episodes, mainly focusing on three characters, and it's formatted to split the story up because of ABC's new scheduling, which I might add, was created because all the fans couldn't stop whining about repeats last season. When the show resumes in February, they'll get back to the main island mystery. It's also pretty asinine to compare it with shows that have far less episodes, or are only in their first season. When Lost was only as far along as those shows, everyone was raving about it as the best thing on TV too. Let's see if the other shows can keep up when they're up to their 54th episodes.

For me, Lost is certainly NOT lost!! I am so into this show, and I think this season is better than last season. I think it's important to remember that every little unseemingly useless tidbit is actually part of a much bigger picture and probably not useless at all. I thoroughly enjoy this show and have faith that the amazing creators will give us the big payoff that we all so anxiously want.

For the most part, I agree with MP and TvG. Viewers seem hugely fickle and judgmental anymore--I used to think networks didn't give shows a chance, now it's viewers! Shows stumble occasionally like everyone and everything else. If a show has to hit one out of the park every single episode for you to say it's worth watching, I'm afraid you're going to be switching shows a lot.
And sometimes shows that answer things too quickly and regularly end up with no way to up their own ante--the plot twists get ridiculous as the writers flail to top themselves. I too wish "Lost" would get back to the Island as its main "opponent"--the Others and their sadistic head games seem convoluted and pointless. But since the show's start was so promising, I'm willing to wait to see how it'll go.

As for Lost, it is easily the most overrated show on TV. It hasn't gone anywhere, and isn't going anywhere. It will wander around aimlessly for a couple more seasons, then they'll end it with a a screw the fans 'St. Elsewhere'-esque ending.

I thought the bad reviews of Lost here are fair. No one is just saying "It sucks, turn the channel." They are saying how the show is missing what made it good. And to say this is just a stumble, or a mini-arc, is letting it off the hook too easy. I'm not saying every episode should be brilliant, but they should listen to the outcry of the fans. People love the mystery, but we want some answers sometimes. To keep adding questions feels like an attempt to shoehorn more seasons than the show is worth. Don't close out every question, but also do better than answering 5 percent.

Lost has become rather tiresome to watch. I have also come to expect the good writing I enjoyed in Seasons 1 and 2. But I'm hoping when the show comes back the writers will have figured out a plot worth watching. It appears to me that the shows that have done poorly and have been cancelled are mostly shows that require an IQ and attention-span to watch. The silly sitcoms that make me want to run screaming from the room are the hits of today. Two and a Half Men, King of Queens, and a few others are exceptions. Ugly Betty and the others are not funny, not entertaining, and the acting is pitiful. But, then, that's just my baby-boomer opinion.

I don't think anyone would argue that season 2 and a half (the last six eps) were on par with the earlier parts of the series. As a huge Lost fan, I would make the argument that one of them ('The Cost of Living', in which Eko dies) is among the top eight eps of the series thus far. I think the series has indeed slipped, but I would not write them off yet. The writers can still pull this one out, and for me, they gained themselves enough creative capital with the first two seasons to sustain me through a weak(er) half season. But, not much more. February better rock.

I remember reading some time back that the producers of the show are planning a 'movie' to conclude the series, after 3 or 4 seasons. Whether that refers to the big or small screen I don't.
As for the show it's self, there is a little too much flashback storytelling from time to time, but it gives the old grey cells a bit of a work out, and there are precious few shows that do. It's certainly among the best pieces of TV since the loss of Firefly.

For a while, LOST met one of my main criteria for "watchability," i.e., I couldn't anticipate the plot. And it certainly didn't hurt that the characters were compelling, the music soundtracks were great, and there were healthy doses of droll humor.
But I'm tired of being jerked around by their scheduling. Henceforth they can delay and hiatus as much as they like. When LOST returns whenever it is they plan to return this time, the old sCRibbler won't be there.

Lost has completely lost me in Season 3. It has turned into a soap opera, it was basicly "Kate's anatomy" in the mini arc and the plot was unbelivably irrational. The characters are so dumbed down that I cannot see them as characters now.
For the sake of mystery, characters are banned of intelligent communication. Everything is kept ambiguous just to make people talk though plotwise it has no importance. Some people say "just be patient and it will pay off". The problem is not the lack of answers for me, its is the randomness, unplanned mystery feeling. I don't need immediate answers, I can live with that but I need characters to like and I need to feel that everything happened for a reason other being put there just to give a puzzle feeling or just to look cool.

I bought the sci-fi label of Lost and gave it a try. I got engrossed in the numbers plot and suffered through all the fillers to find out the outcome. Unfortunately, the writers just dropped it(we're making it up as we go along, David Fury said). So, it's not sci-fi, it's a soap then. I feel cheap for being had and will never give the show another chance.
I was very cautious with Heroes because of Lost - although, so far, Heroes seems to have a plotted course.....
As for the American Idol-Lost contest that seems to be shaping up in the commentary - other than having shared competing time slots, what's to compare?
One is a reality show -which makes it dirt in my book, the other, a soap. If I keep going with the metaphor, I'd say it's a wash between the two...
Bad TV is bad TV, no matter the genre or how popular it is.

Lost isn't like the shows that are out there that have plots that get wrapped up neat and tidy in one hour. (Gosh who knew forensic proceedures were so simple to impliment!) JJ Abrams said from the get go that he has plotted out the story to run for a specific amount of time and then the story ends. No detail is unimportant and it all fits together. Think back to season one and the little things you thought weren't that big a deal that ended up being huge. The show is definately going somewhere and I am still very keen to see where it ends up.

Like MP, I don't think Lost as a whole should be judged by the last six episodes. However, like Ian, I'm hoping for a lot more come February. Perhaps JJ will be done with the Star Trek movie and can spend more time on his original brain child. Meanwhile, Heroes and Battlestar Galactica are topping my list of favorites.
