We asked. You answered. Viewer take on NBC's "30 Rock" was pretty strong. And, we hate to say it because we love the building and our bosses (and our parent company and our jobs), but you guys really didn't like it.

Some excerpts:
Jack: "Sucked -- isn't Baldwin overdue for leaving the Country?"
TVTed: "Was this show supposed to be funny? It wasn't."
Shannon: "So many great people. Such a sucky show. How does that happen?
Cray: "If episode number 2 isn't any better, 30 Rock will be on an E-ticket ride to the top on deathwatch. It was one of the worst shows I've seen of late."

In fact, out of all the comments, only two were positive. And even then, there were caveats.

Erica: "I definitly think Alec Baldwin was the shining star in the show, however Tracy Morgan was a close second. I thought tough that Tina Fey's acting was less then stellar."

Our take: We work in 30 Rock, right down the hall from Saturday Night Live, and so it's fun to watch a fictional show that takes place on (a set made to look like) the floor that we work on. We worry that this might be the main problem with "30 Rock." It's hard to care about a workplace drama/comedy. Especially when it all feels like an extended SNL sketch.

I can't believe that people didn't like this show. I watched it online and was blown away by how funny it was. I thought the writing was sharp and unexpected. So many things made me laugh really hard-- the portrait of the microwave oven, Tracy Morgan's reaction to the waiter telling him about the pumpkin ravioli, Tracy Morgan's rant about affirmative action... Perhaps this show is too smart for the audience, ala Arrested Development?

I had little hopes for this show based on the previews, which was disappointing based on the cast. However, I just watched the episode online--and I actually think this show has some serious potential. There are a lot of really funny characters and Tina Fey's writing is awesome...though I'm not a huge fan of her acting. What happened to her SNL timing?

I think, given a few more episodes this show can create a solid foundation and be successful a la the Office.
I do have a rant--what is it w/ NBC and thinly veiled mocks --studio60 under "NBS" and tracy morgan as tracy jordan

i was NOT entertained.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I loved this show. From the opening hot dog scene, it re-invents the classic Mary Tyler Moore opening. Smart, and funny - this is EMMY caliber stuff, and Alec Baldwin , well you might as well hand him the Emmy right now! Congratulations, Tina for finding the funny in these sit-com challenged times.

I loved this show!
I agree with cathyp... I think that the show is just too smart for the average tv audience.

Tom wrote:

It was NOT FUNNY AT ALL...crappy...NBC will soon be number 5 in the ratings

Stefanie wrote:

I don't understand why Tina Fey left SNL cause obviously that was the only show she was funny on. This show was such a dissappointment....the actors are great but this thing is a big old flop!

Valli wrote:

Okay, you guys are crazy! 30 Rock is the funniest debut of the year! Maybe you have a different sense of humor than I. Ugly Betty does nothing for me, but 30 Rock is damn funny! Tina Fey is a comic genius and I am crossing my fingers that this one lasts more than a season. You guys probably didn't get Arrested Development either.

GTC wrote:

Is it me or is Tracy Morgan the most annoying person on TV? The show has potential, Baldwin is great and Fey's writing is boo-yah! But Tracy and his irritating New York affectation is boo-no!Shades of "Emiril!" and we all know how long he lasted in the network prime-time kitchen.

AWFUL.

Jami Christopher wrote:

I had a really hard time getting into it, therefore, I don't think I will be watching it again.

Linda F. wrote:

What an uncontrolled bore. I like the actors, but the material was tedious. Nothing was funny. I'd like to give it another chance, but there's something better on another station. The show following it, Twenty Something, was great. The two lead actors are real pros who make the material work. How can you not adore John Lithgow? This show I'll tape.

Cie wrote:

what a f____ nerve! A "straight up mentally ill" character, you all laugh at this? Try spoofing/laughing at autism! Funny huh? (would Bob Wright find this laughable??? He has an AUTISTIC grandkid) How insensitive! You offend people and families with mental illness, many of which are in your industry in NY and Hollywood.

Let this show go... it's the right thing to do.

I LOVE IT! Watch every episode religiously.

This show was so funny, I couldn't wait for the download and re-arranged my schedule to catch it on the Tube. The Jack moments are simply genius. NBC SVCKS Bull B4ll5 for cancelling this show. screw them. back to Comedy central.
