The Deathwatch Watch has seen even more exciting news today. And this time, it’s good news!

One week ago, "20 Good Years” (NBC) was parked at Number 16 (odds of cancellation were 175:1) – we hadn’t seen it yet, but were pretty sure that a warmed-over “Odd Couple” was bound for the scrap heap. (Just look at this picture! That's crazy stuff.)

Then yesterday, when it found its way into the top five “least likely to be cancelled” shows. It now rests at number 20, with odds of cancellation at 251:1.

“The Class” (CBS) continued its downward spiral, falling another place since yesterday to land at number 5. The odds of cancellation last week at this time was 51:1 and now they are a pitiful 18:1. "The Class" is flunking.

An announcement has been made that Kidnapped has been told not to produce past 13 episodes. Does this count as a cancellation? And can we stop this week's voting now before everyone changes their choice for this week?

For more years than I can remember, Aaron Sorkin has made a living betting on the premise that the American television viewing public really does want to see how sausage is made. Whether it's eves dropping on the frenetic balancing act of public and personal lives among ESPN Sports Center (Sports Night)cast and crew, looking in on the inner workings of the Presidential palace guard in Washington DC (West Wing), or careening nearly out of control with a family-like dysfunctionality to produce a live television broadcast (Studio 60), Sorkin has clearly established himself as the King of Process. The way you get there is infinitely more interesting to Aaron, it would seem, than the destination itself. And though I am an avid rerun watcher of West Wing on Bravo and now have Tivo set to capture what will be probably be the fleeting nuance of how a TV script is written and produced, I wouldn't bet the farm on viewership. It would seem that week one and now week three have eyeballs stampeding in droves to the more certain and secure sedation of nuptial-wannabe seductions (The Bachelor) or perhaps only test patterns accompanied with whatever substance is needed to convince the mind that the screen is actually animated.

I loved Sports Night and West Wing and I think Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry have great chemistry. However, I have been bored with the first three episodes and plan to give them just one more chance. I don't care what else is on at the same time. If things go on as they began, I'd rather watch nothing than waste an hour of my life watching this nada-fest.
