"Even more distressing is the decision to kill off the main character (played by Gale Harold) and move on to the end of the story without him. The creators have asked that the fans stand up for it, which is usually a sign of desperation. If you were thinking of writing an email to Fox, now might be the time."
Josh Berman has to be nuts if he thinks people are going to stand up for a bonehead move like killing the main protagonist after seven episodes. Get real, Berman.

It was the interview Berman gave with TV Guide that made me want to stop watching. When he said that Kelton had figured things out too quickly and therefore he had to go. That spoke to me of either clumsy writing or a big, stinking lie to cover up the real reasons for why Gale Harold was fired, and neither situation makes me think too highly of either Berman or Vanished.

If Fox thinks the ratings are bad now, wait until Vanished returns SANS Gale Harold. All the fans watching for him will simply turn off.
In some ways I think Gale leaving (or being fired, depending on who you talk to) is the best thing to happen to him - at least he won't go down with the sinking ship.

I must be in the minority about killing off Graham Kelton. His character was so bad I was on the verge of not watching anymore. This was my first experience with Gale Harold, and I'm not looking forward to seeing him again. Kelton was too wimpy for the lead investigator role, and most of the time I felt as though he was over-acting. I think getting rid of a very poor actor may actually help the show for people who are interested in the plot, not one actor on the show. Eddie Cibrian, based on my viewing experience from Invasion, is a superior actor to Harold and seems more able to have a strong presence the lead investigator would be required to have. Alas, it probably came too late as most of those people had probably already switched to Heroes.

Killing off Gale Harold in "Vanished" is like killing off Keifer Sutherland in "24" or Wentworth Miller in "Prison Break" or Kristen Bell in "Veronica Mars." That's just plain stupid. Gale Harold is lucky to get out before the show falls to its demise. I feel sorry for Eddie Cibrian (the new FBI guy, who will replace Gale). He's a good enough actor, but has 2 fail shows in a row ("Invasion" and "Vanished").

OB and Donna are right as rain-Gale Harold turned me off SO much on this show, with his creepy demeanor and Queer as Folk memory of him. Otherwise I thought this had the basis for being terrific! How could you not like Walt Cummings from 24, which they should show more of, Ming-Na-I knew her when she was Ming-Na Wen, who should have been given the detective lead, and of course, the SMOKIN' hot Joanne Kelly, who should have more scantily clad scenes in this! And lets give some more air time to Rebecca Gayheart, who after seeing her on Nip/Tuck, made me want to be a plastic surgeon! Thank you FOX for bringing Eddie Cibrian on here to save this! Seacrest OUT!

The reason why they took Gale off the air was cause of the fact that, the majority of his fans still see him as Brian Kinney. And Fox ain't too Liberal at all. Just take a look at there news wing. Bill O'Reilly and the creeps over at the Fox News Channel. I bet they got a phone call from concerned conservatives, wanting to scrap the character off the air. Or he might be still alive. Take a look at The X-Files, they killed off Mulder, and tried to continue without him. Then he ended up coming back to tie everything up in the final season.

Has anyone given any thought to a chance that Kelton is not dead and is just being protected. "They" wanted him dead cause he was on to something. Wouldn't it make sense to fake his death and find out what he knows? Perhaps I'm being overly optimistic, but as said before, why would anyone kill off the main character so soon?

I got hooked a few weeks back with the cool cliffhanger that the detective got shot. And now I just finished FF'ing on my DVR, realizing the first 15 minutes that a new detective/actor was going to take over the lead role. The last scene (and these posts) confirmed it. What a dumb move from network executives. I don't get it. I mean, with the main character dead, what was the point of the last few months? I zipped through 45 minutes of the show and I realized that I didn't miss a thing. I guess those whirred images will be my last memory of the show.

Really, who here buys the exuse that they are trying to keep the show edgy? I know I am not. There was no reason to kill of Kelton. He was in the middle of a major plot. How are they going to tie the new investigator with the whole religious cult theme? Half of the show is gone. Kelton new a lot of information that he told no one. Unless he kept a journal and the new investigator finds it, I dont know how it will turn out. I will continue to watch, just to see how the plot unfolds. I am not happy with Kelton's death, but this is only television- a way to pass our time. Harold will go on to better things... he didnt need FOX anyways. Although I have to say that I liked him more as a queer guy than an investigator with a tormented past... but that is just me.

Gale Harold made Vanished a good show. That Fox is cancelling it is no real surprise; it isn't of the same caliber as some of the stellar Fox shows (except the Simpsons), such as Justice, American Dad, American Idol, America's Most Wanted, House, Nanny 911 (Jesus!), The OC, ... .
Fox especially doesn't know how to do drama, meaning: they don't know how to place their shows and most certainly don't know what to do with a good one when they land one. It's no reason that the top producers pitch to Fox as a last resort - they would like to see their series last for a few years.

It's unfortunate that ALL the American networks think that the viewing market beyond its borders is too small to warrant streaming outside the U.S. None of the shows, continuing or wrapping up are available to non U.S. IP addresses. Is this a Homeland Security overreacton??? Here is Canada will Global TV or CTV step up and get the rights to stream the U.S. showsir airs?
Anyways, back to VANISHED. Gale Harold did not have the physical presence to be a believable FBI investigator; Eddie Cibrian is too much to smarmy jock. The latter's casting would never haveen sustainable for more than half a season. Ming-Na, tho an accomlished actress, was miscast. The few supporting lines she was tossed were delivered as if she were reading off cue-cards. I get the feeling she knew her talents were being wasted.
I enjoyed the short run here in Canada and expected the series to end up as a one-story extended mini-series, with a maximum one year air-time (remember Twin Peaks, Murder One). Maybe the U.S. networks should rethink how they market some shows, and follow the British format. Limited runs series that tell a story in discrete # of episodes. If succussful, then renew for another season, if not, then the show can be put to rest complete, and everybody walks away satisfied.
