Remote Roundup: Destined for Cancellation?

December 08, 2006

Since the Midseason Edition of DeathWatch began we've seen quite a bit of action, but two shows have been consistently at the top of the list for cancellation. Let’s review and discuss those shows, shall we?

We’ll start with “The Class” on CBS. It will be interesting to note that this show reached number one on the Fall 2006 Deathwatch before the game rolled over into the Midseason Edition. Back in September, the ratings for this show plummeted straight through the floor immediately after the premiere, and cancellation looked imminent.

Three weeks ago, the show scored a 2.5, two weeks ago a 3.0, and last week a 3.1. It seems to be on the rebound and gaining an audience. DeathWatchers have kept voting for it, and it’s holding its position at number two, with odds of cancellation at 7:1.

ABC News: LOST Avoids IDOL

December 06, 2006

Big DeathWatch News out of ABC today. They’ve completely reshuffled their Wednesday night line-up, released some premiere dates, and signaled a possible cancellation coming down the pike.

The network will shift “Lost” to Wednesdays at 10pm to avoid the impending ratings smackdown caused by the return of Fox’s “American Idol.”

ABC will also finally release two DeathWatch shows that had been awaiting premiere. Tuesday, January 3rd at 9pm, look for “Knights of Prosperity” – the show about a gang of erstwhile fools who plan to rob Mick Jagger. At 9:30pm that same night, you can catch “In Case of Emergency.”

Full Order for “30 Rock”

December 04, 2006

Just one week ago, NBC ordered three more scripts of the new comedy “30 Rock.” This had us worried, because an order for scripts is not an order for episodes. In essence, NBC wanted to see what the show would look like if they were to pick it up.

This morning, news was released that the network has orderd a full season of the “no-laughtrack” comedy, after its move to Thursday nights boosted its flagging ratings.

We all breathed a sigh of relief. As, we're sure, did the writers at "30 Rock." Those three new episodes had to be the best writing of their lives. (Now we can't wait to see the episodes.) We work down the hall from Saturday Night Live, and so we like the idea that life is really like this. We also love all the jokes made about our parent company GE.
