Good news! Due to the overwhelming success of the DeathWatch: Midseason Edition, we’ve decided to extend the game past its original end-date.
With over 33,000 DeathWatchers signed up, and more shows coming to air in the very near future, we don’t see how we could just throw you to the wolves. Hang around the DeathWatch graveyard -- we'll be posting all the changes we have in store for the game, but for now, let’s get to the big news.
The Television Critic’s Association Press Tour came to a halt last week, and now that we’ve sifted through TV Lover’s reports, there’s some pretty impressive news about some of your favorite DeathWatch shows.
Let’s start with “Standoff” – This procedural crime drama about hostage negotiators has long sat on the DeathWatch, hovering around position number 7. Fox has announced that it will be moving the show to Fridays at 8p beginning Friday March 30. It used to be that a move to Fridays was the television equivalent of “dead man walking.” But the networks have seen some strong Friday numbers and seem to want to re-invent the night. We’ll wait and see.
DeathWatch Shows that Haven’t Premiered:
“The Winner”(Fox)-- This half-hour coming-of-age sitcom is from Seth MacFarlane, creator of "Family Guy" and "American Dad." Rob Corddry stars as a rich and successful 43-year-old man who looks back at the period 10 years earlier when he was still living with his parents and a beautiful woman inspired him to grow up and change his life. The series premieres on Sunday March 4 with new episodes airing at 8:30p and 9:30p for three consecutive weeks. It’s current DeathWatch ranking is number 11.

Its good to hear that The Nine & Six Degrees will be returning, both shows are excellent and didn't deserve to be put on hiatus - unforgivable. As for Day Break, I can't believe their not going to give this show another shot it was great and so much better than I thought it would be - ABC really missed the ball on this show.

Nice to see something on Standoff here, and it is interesting that you point out it has held it's own on the list for so long. Why was it left there to begin with, it got a back order, while not a full one it got it, and FOX is bringing it back. This is a refreshing bit of police drama with a nice sub plot of a relationship. This show got an extremely raw deal by critics who thought they were reviewing Justice, again. If FOX would back this show properly and give it the advertisment it spends on other shows, it wouldn't be forced to struggle. Yet for a struggle, holding 5-6 million viewers when it was up against "Dancing with the BCDand E list Stars", this show has earned the right to be backed by the network that decided to run with it. Give the show a chance, and don't watch it looking for lab coats and fingerprint techniques, its deeper than that. I am pulling for this show to continue to produce decent numbers. Come'on FOX!!!

While Six Degrees is a bit soapish, it told a compelling story that I became invested in. Therefore, I am pleased to hear that it will be (hopefully) returning. My real question is why is "Till Death" still on the air?

Fridays is always questionble for a show and a worry for it's fans. But some shows have done well there like Monk, Miami Vice, Dallas, Falcon Crest, The Incredible Hulk, The Dukes of Hazzard, Providence, Ghost Whisperer, Picket Fences, Hope & Faith, The X-Files, and Law and Order:SVU. And the Networks have at times tried to get good ratings for the night (Think TGIF). FOX has stated their intention of moving Standoff there is to pick up ratings for the night and they are also premiering the new show The Wedding Belles. Since the show was thrown up against DWTS (a mega hit) I don't think it acurately showed how successful the show could be. How many shows would do well against American Idol? The show moved into the top ten most talked about new shows in Dec and proved very successful and popular over seas when it wasn't against DWTS (It was winning it's time slot in Australia). I'm thinking it could do well on Friday. There is no reason for it to not do well unless Fox doesn't promote it properly, which is the biggest question for the show right now. Personally I hope it survives, I'm loving the mix of action with Romance and the cast is great.
As far as the other shows, I have a friend that is going to be thrilled that The Nine is coming back.
The Winner? It has been on the Fox programming for a long time and never premiered and now they are runing six episodes over three weeks? I don't know but it seems to me like they are burning off episode that were made, I may be wrong.

I'm glad to see that other people have a positive attitude about Standoff coming back on Fridays. I am aware that Friday is considered the death slot, though I don't quite understand it, because I watch several shows on Fridays. NUMB3RS and Las Vegas have always done good, so why can't Standoff? Standoff is a nice show. Very fresh and enjoyable to watch. I think that, if given a chance, Standoff can hold it's own in the Friday slot.

Now if only they'd bring back Justice then I'd be truly pleased.
