DeathWatch Watch

End of "The Class?"

March 05, 2007

Page 1 | Page 2

deathwatch_theclass_260x220.jpgTonight may just be the last episode of “The Class” on CBS. We don’t know if the show will be picked up for a second season, and though it doesn’t look good – we kind of really hope so.

Due to the fact that this show is being allowed to finish its freshman season, we’re actually moving it into the “safe” category on the DeathWatch, along with two other shows (“Big Day” on ABC and “Standoff” on FOX).

We’re actually a little sad to stop tracking it. When the show premiered in the fall, viewers, critics, and even we hated it (and we’ll watch anything!). The show held its own, struggled through a bumpy first season, and went on to win a “People’s Choice” Award for best new comedy.

“The Class” turned into the little DeathWatch show that could. After CBS showed so much faith in the ensemble comedy, we decided to watch a few more episodes, and found (to our great surprise) that we actually liked it.

For many weeks, the show has been nestled in the number eight position, with odds of cancellation at around 50:1. Tonight, CBS will air the show’s season finale. A second season seems about 50% plausible, and we actually have our fingers crossed for the little show that could.

I want this show back! It really turned into my surprise favorite of the season. I'm going to miss it after tonight. It really is the little show that could.

I think The Class is great!!!! I wasnt real impressed with the first couple of episodes but now its my favorite show. I like it better than How I Met Your Mother and of course anything is better than New Adventures of Old Christine. I will be really bummed if they cancel it.

megan wrote:

I personally love this show!!!! I'll be so upset if it doesn't get picked up for a second season especially with the ending. This was and is my favorite show of monday night and would be sad to see it go.

utvols2k wrote:

Same opinion. The show I thought was terrible at first, but it came around. The show with the hostage scene in the car, is where i think it turned around. First episode that made me laugh out loud. Hope it gets picked back up.

T wrote:

I have loved The Class from the very first episode. And while there are still a few quirks in it, overall the show is excellent. It was always the highlight of my week, and my Mondays will now be lacking.

kevin wrote:

wow...i've watched every episode of this show, and it's really one of my favorites...if it was cancelled, i would be absolutely devastated....i really look forward to this show every week, and i think that CBS should realize that their ratings have been improving, and i think it has great potential

Gail wrote:

Bring It back. The SEASON finale left too many open doors. And If I recall, Friends didn't have a great first season either. It deserves to return to continue to entertain it the same quirky way that Friends or Two and a Half Man does. It definitely has a place. See you in September?

Maria wrote:

I have really enjoyed the new show class. It's had a couple bumps, but overall I think it is a good comedy without being completely about sex. I can watch this with my teenage daughter and not blush! I vote to give the series another year to really increase their popularity!!!
Thx, Maria

Sam wrote:

The first couple of episodes were terrible, but I continued to watch because I am to lazy to change the channel between how I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men. But, then everything changed and I started laughing. I now think this show is great. They really brought it together. I hope it stays for another season or two.

Sarah K. wrote:

I love The Class...and I am going to miss it! It was my Monday night laugh. I hope hope hope that CBS will renew it. I've already written to them requesting that they renew The Class. Such a funny show with a great ensemble. I just don't want to be left hanging forever...will Duncan & Nicole ever be together? Will Richie and Lina get married? Will Kat & Ethan ever become an item? Not to mention I really want to see if Duncan & Kat acutally, you know! BRING BACK THE CLASS!!!! PLEASE!!!!!

Dan Steinmiller wrote:

I've said this many times but it bears repeating: After watching the pilot episode of "The Class" I immediately hated it but I stuck around and continued to watch the next few episodes and soon enough I grew to love the show and never missed an episode. This show must return for a 2nd season! otherwise I'll only have "Shark" to watch on CBS from here on out.

Dee wrote:

I have really grown to love "The Class". I really look forward to Monday night because the show always makes me laugh- and it also has a very sweet side to it. I will be so disapointed if it doesn't return! The characters are just hysterical and if given the chance i feel the show can becaome the next "Friends"!!!! PLEASE DON'T CANCEL "THE CLASS"!!!!!

Mike Castro wrote:

I do not like live-audience sitcoms. I prefer "film" comedies like Sports Night and The Office. The last "classic" sitcom I watched regularly was Murphy Brown. I try every year to find one and always fail... until "The Class". I only watched it because Jason Ritter was in it and I liked Joan of Arcadia. It is the first "live" show in years that makes me laugh out loud 4 or 5 times a week. Great chemistry is a rare thing and CBS should realize that it has stumbled upon it.

Vickie wrote:

They better bring back The Class for a second season. You can't just leave the Kat/Ethan dynamic hanging on by that last episode. I do think it is funny that the one charecter, the news anchor woman, mysteriously disappeared. She is out of the opening credits and not listed as a charecter anymore. CBS has to give this show a chance!!

Gabrielle wrote:

Please do a second season of the class. I have a need to know what will happen with all of the characters. It was the best show on Monday night. I liked the fact that all the characters were extremely different.

Agnes wrote:

This turned out to be a great show and I finally figured out why. Has anyone noticed who is named as director in the credits? James Burrows - the same guy who directed Cheers, Frasier, Friends, News Radio, and Will & Grace. This guy has the magic touch.

Allison wrote:

I absolutely LOVE this show!!! I really hope that CBS decides to have another season of it!

Laura wrote:

This was the best and funniest show ever. It was a Monday night show that started during football season. I had to miss some episodes when my team was playing, but I was sure to always record it. Let me say that after football season ended I had both of my brothers, my dad, and my uncle watching it. I believe it ended leaving viewers sad that they would have to wait several months to see a new season. I am definitly hoping for a second season.

Miranda wrote:

THE CLASS is my favourite show since friends. I think that if given the chance, the show could do really good. Please give THE CLASS a second season!!!!

Susan wrote:

I think the show is brilliant. The writing is wonderful the acting is icredible. Their timing is right on. My husband and I love the show and look forward to watching it each week. We will be terribly disappointed if it is cancelled. We vote for season 2.

AFOL wrote:

i don't know what cbs is thinking. this show turned out to be a favorite of mine. it's in a great monday night lineup. i'd be real upset if it went off air.

Melissa wrote:

Why is the New Adventures of Old Christine even still on?! Julia needs to go back to playing Elaine. 'The Class' is a clever show and often makes me & my husband laugh out loud. That and How I Met Your Mother are all we bother to watch on Mondays! It'd better be back next year!

TVSeriesFinale.com wrote:

I'm optimistic about this one, especially considering New Adventures of Old Christine's return didn't do any better than The Class had been doing. There is hope.

Jessica wrote:

This is a great show. It is one of the few that I still laugh out loud at. My husband and I rarely agree on television, and even he loves this show. Bring it back for another season.

Ron wrote:

I've enjoyed this show since Episode One. It has been the best new comedy on television. The show has improved every episode. And I hope that it returns for another year. CBS would be making a mistake otherwise.

Mary wrote:

I've watched every episode and I really enjoy this show. The characters are surprisingly engaging... who doesn't love Kat's evil side, watching her torture Ethan in the ice cream line was classic! And the romance between my favorite geek Ritchie and uber-adorable Lina is sweet without being syrupy. I hope it stays around for a LONG time!

Jeff wrote:

I've really liked this show since day one - it's as good as 'How I Met Your Mother' but in a completely different way. So, if CBS is listening - SHOW SOME CLASS! About 6 more seasons worth would be acceptable.

AV wrote:

Why always "hate" or "love" with these shows? I watched the first 2 episodes of "The Class," and was disappointed, yes, but it was not terrible. And I gave it another chance, and yes, it's much better, but it isn't a great now, either. What's wrong with a little restraint? The "Friends" team wasn't about to give us total crap. The acting, writing and production values on "Class" (and, to be fair, on "Joey" too) are far better than most other sitcoms. I do like "The Class" and hope it's renewed.

Susie wrote:

Andrea Anders is just brilliant in this show, as are the rest of the cast. I honestly didn't know what to think of it at first...it had moments; but, as it turns out, the cast needed to warm up to each other like we did. I think it's fabulous! Let it stay...please!

Todd wrote:

I agree with AV. I like How I Met Your Mother and New Adventures of Old Christine, and I love The Class! It really grew on me after the first episode, which was the requisite (albeit strained) setup for the rest of the show. People are so demanding of instant gratification, it's preposterous. If you have the attention span of a flea, you can't even focus long enough for a 30 minute sitcom.

Steven B wrote:

Keep The Class going, it is fresh and something different and totally entertaining, give it a chance to grow. LOVE IT!

karen wrote:

the class NEEDS to come bak. its my absolute favorite show EVR!!! and it ended w/ a cliffhanger! we HAV to find out what happens!!!

Barbara Ault wrote:

OMG we loved the weather lady, she was at her best when she was actually reporting. Boy we will se so bummed if they cancel this.

Katelyn wrote:

I love The Class. Its my favorite show on tv.Personally I think CBS needs to keep it because How I Met Your Mother and the other Monday night sitcoms just arent doing as good as they were when they first started.(But I still want How I Met Your Mother to stay...even though we knew from the beginning who "the mother" was/is.)But yeah I really really do love this show and hope they bring it back for a 2nd Season.IT NEEDS IT.PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEEEEAASSSE BRING IT BACK.

Terry wrote:

I have liked The Class from the first episode. I originally tuned in to see Sam Harris as Perry and started to like some of the other characters as well. My only concern if it does come back is that Perry is still in somehow as his wife has simply vanished from the scene and is not even in the opening picture anymore. What happened to her?

April wrote:

Don't cancel!!!!!! The class has boiled over into my personal life, unfortunately, and I'm too addicted for you to take it away!

Michael wrote:

With the single exception of Friends, The Class is the best show I've ever seen! If it gets cancelled... \_/ grr!

Julie wrote:

I have loved The Class from the first episode. CBS has me glued to the set on Monday's because of that particular line up. The cast is fresh and funny, and the jokes are quick and layered.

I'd be sadly disappointed if this show goes off the air.

Leann wrote:

This is one of the few shows I actually mention as one of my favorites of current shows. I like many but don't "love" everything but "The Class" is one I definately make sure to see each week. I really want this back next season.

Barry Kriebel wrote:

I loved this episode from the VERY first episode. It was witty and the physical comedy of all of the cast memebers was an absolute HOOT! You MUST bring it back! One of the best ensemble shows since WILL & GRACE left us!

debbie wrote:

I must say that I didn't particularly care for it when it first came on but it grew on me. There are so few funny shows on TV nowadays....please leave this on!

Mary wrote:

I love this show!! The angry sister needs to lighten up (ALOT!!) but Richie and Lena are hysterical!!! It would be really too bad to cancel this show when there is so much else that is worse. I've emailed CBS - you should too!!!

Alex wrote:

HI GREAT NEWS IT IS PROBABLY TRUE! THERE IS GOING TO BE... BE... A 2ND SEASON!

marykay wrote:

This show is one of the funniest in yrs!!!!!!!! I love the storyline and it would be a shame to take it away from all us faithful viewers!

katelyn wrote:

hey mary.the angry sister is Kat and her attitude is just what draws Ethan closer to her to see what shes rele like and now that he has-BA BAM!he likes her!so there ya go just another reason for it to stay.oh yeah by the way whats tha email for CBS?

Anthony wrote:

The Class is my favorite show. I'm really hoping it survives. There is so much "reality" nonsense on TV that the sitcom is a lost art. The show is well-written and the cast is full of fully developed characters.
I wrote to CBS asking them to keep it on. I hope they are listening.

Heather Morrison wrote:

I really enjoy this show. I am a little behind on watching my recorded shows, but this is a perfect fit with How I met your mother (which is another great show).

Craig wrote:

The Class was the best show on Monday Nights, better then Met Your Mother and definitely Christine. They better not cancel it, it was hilarious. Now that it hasn't been on, I've gotten really attached to Rules of Engagement. I think all four shows that were on, Mother, Class, 2 1/2 Men and Rules of Engagement are all great shows and they should leave all four on and get rid of Christine. But, definitely leave on The Class and Rules of Engagement because they are the funniest two shows on TV, not just CBS or Monday nights, but ON TV!! PLEASE!!

jacksparrowfan wrote:

This show is the BEST show i've ever seen! I actually started watching it because of jesse tyler ferguson who I had seen on Broadway. the first episode i saw was horrible, but then a friend encouraged me to keep watching and I did. Now I love the characters and I have become seriously attached. I cried at the end of almost every episode towards the end of the season when everything was happening between Duncan and Nicole. And then I would cry more from laughing so hard. But I seriously think this show deserves another season!!!

Bob wrote:

Best show ever. Please bring the Class back. It's full of beautiful women and lots of laughs.

Renee wrote:

I love the Class. Between The Class and The NAOO Christine Monday's are actually a night to watch. It has been so long since a truely funny Sitcom has been on that I nearly forgot what it was to laugh at a show. Not just smile or chuckle under my breath, but really laugh. Both the Class and Christine have it. The Class really could be the next Friends (even the first season of Friends was awful - remember the monkey?) and Christine already is the new Seinfeld - so dry and witty (I adore Mr. Harris and Christine's chemistry. It is Laugh Out Loud funny.)
Come on Give Comedy a chance - do we really need another reality show? Although even that would be better that Rules of Engagement - ugh! David Spade should give up acting. He's awful. He's really icky - I don't even want to think of him...
Ewww.
The Class is AWESOME!! Please Give it one more season!!!

Suzanne wrote:

I just love The Class. I have never before felt compelled to fight for a shows survival. I loved it from the first episode. I actually feel the same way about this show as I did about Cheers first epidode. Yes, I am old but I love seeing The Class generation interact /and the releationships that are forming. The characters are unique and endearing (I even think there should be room for Weather Girl character who has already been booted.)I was wathching TV last night and it just did not seem like Monday without The Class. Please give this show a chance.

JACKIE wrote:

Please bring "The Class" back. I need to figure out who Oprah's dad is.

Janika wrote:

I love the show. I can't miss it. Yeah, it did suck at first but its been growing and can become a great comedy that everyone cant miss.

Drew wrote:

Bring back the class! This show started off slowly, but it's right up there with How I Met Your Mother and Two and Half Men. In fact, there were several episodes that I thought were funnier than either of those 2 shows.

meemee wrote:

i miss The Class! Monday's were my favorite tv nite, I haven't enjoyed tv like this since Friends went off the air! I LOVED the old line-up HIMYM, TC, T&HM,and NAOOC. & I WANT IT BACK. I'm so sick of all the dramas & reality shows, so please put it back!!!!!

Kandi wrote:

I would hate to see The Class leave. This show is one of our favorites and a favorite of friends and family. We love discussing the episodes together and the absolute amazing acting done by the character who plays Richie. That guy is PERFECT in his role. The characters Richie, Lena, Kat, Duncan, and Nicole are so engaging. You can't help but root for them. We have looked forward to this comedy more than any other recently. Sometimes we laugh so hard it hurts. CBS: PLEASE bring it back!!!

Mike wrote:

Great show--hope it comes back

stephanie patton wrote:

Okay there is no reason for cbs not to bring back the class next season. It was the starting point of the show, give it another chance it will certainly bloom into the image we all know it will be.

Lauren wrote:

It is a total mistake to have cancelled this show. It has a decent and very loyal fanbase and was a brilliant show. It deserves more of a chance than one season.

A.J. wrote:

This show deserves another season. All the cahracters are amazing in their respective roles, especially Richie. The Class is better than Rules of Engagement.

Jamie wrote:

I loved this show and am really upset with CBS for not giving it another season. I wanted to see what happened with Kat and Ethan, I loved the characters Ritchie and Lena, and wanted to see what would happen with Zonk. Who at CBS thought that this show diserved the axe...No idea but they sure aren't listening to the people on this one.

Dulcinea wrote:

My husband and I are both very disappointed that this show is being canceled. We really enjoyed it and were looking forward to the next season.

Dayna Birmingham wrote:

I love this show! I am very upset to not see it in the Fall line-up!! How can they leave us wondering about Duncan and Nicole? Nicole (Andrea Anders was great by the way as she was on the cancelled "Joey".) Ethan and Kat had such great chemistry. I still have the "hurricane episode" with the Holly character doing the weather in a hurricane. It is burning a whole in my dvr. We watch it all the time. When the stop sign bounces off her head and Kyle and his partner (who was recently on Ugly Betty) are in shock but then race to rewind it ......HYSTERICAL!!! The Holly Ellenbogen character is funny too with her gay father and gay husband the Perry Pearl character...she is so clueless...her daughter named, Oprah! When Sara Gilbert's character calls her and says, "I am going to get you!" and she is like what? It was so funny. The funniest ones on there though have to be Richie (he was on Ugly Betty recently as well) and Lina. He is such a clutz and a coward. His one-liners are awesome. The scenes with him running her over with his car, the bee in the car when he crashed, when he was picking Lina up from the hospital and she blows into a hybrid car! This is great comedy. I haven't been watching "How I met Your Mother" because he is still dating the wive's sister or did they forget what happened in the first episode. I am also not watching American Idol, who cares! I don't have much time in a day to watch tv, so it has to be great ..........like The Class. Let me know who to write to at CBS to get this show back on.
