This is a new DeathWatch record. We’ve never seen such a bloodbath!
Heading into the May Sweeps period, three networks lowered the axe on three DeathWatch series. Two are cancelled, one moved into a Coma.
CANCELLED: "The Wedding Bells" (FOX)
Teri Polo led David E. Kelley's take on a family wedding-planning business run by three sisters –will air one more episode, and then it will disappear. The network has asked the show to cease production immediately after they finish the episode they're working on, which is episode 7. Plans to air remaining episodes were announced, but not dates were given – never a good sign.

i cant believe NBC. The Black Donnellys is a great show. I actually tape other shows so i can sit back relax and watch this one. Darn you NBC. Third Watch and now this. How about putting some of your cool cancelled shows out on dvd already. At least that way i can sit and watch that while nbc puts other pap on the tube. If the networks keep killin their shows im just gonna stop watching and wait for them to just go directly to dvd so i can enjoy them without fear of cancelation.

I'm super pissed about Six Degrees - the show is great and all but the long break killed it. The show had so much momentum before it was pulled originally and by putting it on Fridays didn't help matters either. When will ABC learn: Friday is a dead zone. As for the Black Donnellys, I'm very surprised. It started out rough with the pilot episode but since then its gotten so much better and I've become a big fan of the show. Let's just hope NBC doesn't make the same mistake as ABC by bringing the show back after a long period of time passes by.

I can't believe that NBC would cancel the Black Donnellys!!!! It is my favorite show. NBC keeps the crappy shows and gets rid of all the good ones. No wonder they are doing so bad in the ratings!! They don't give the shows a chance to build an audience. Shows are canceled before most people even hear about them - NBC doesn't advertise their shows and then can't understand why they are last all the time!! Wake up!! And keep The Black Donnellys!!!!

Uhhhh NBC, maybe it's not the show you put on at 10/9 on monday night, maybe it's the time slot. Why in hell is Studio 60 not on? Jeffery Zucker puts it the wrong slot and wonders why it got those ratings? What is this, a government job where you can screw everything up, then get a promotion? Put STUDIO 60 back on tv.

I can't believe NBC is going to cut the Black Donnelly. It is one of the best new shows. NBC doesn't care about nobody except themselves. What about all the Black Donnelly Fans. I really thought NBC was making a comeback, but I guess I was wrong. NBC only took one step forward and 10 steps backward.

Do not give up people. Write, call, e-mail NBC and tell them the mistake they are making. Did they think any brand new show could compete after 2 hours of "Deal or No Deal" and against March Madness? What would have happened had people not talked online and everywhere else about "The Office" or "Scrubs" even after less than stellar ratings during their first few seasons? This is a show that can't afford to be axed. Watch the episode online on Monday and do anything in your power to tell NBC what's up! Never underestimate the power of the people. If Tommy Donnelly can protect Jimmy from Huey and Sal, I think we can protect him from NBC's axe let him worry about Doakey's! Do your part and save a good show from being a complete series dvd in 3 months!

That's another show that has fabulous writers and actors - come on NBC - we are adults here! We LIKE gritty shows - not crap about out-of-control toddlers!

This season is the Worst-great new shows cancelled after 2, 3, 4 episodes. How can anyone expect every show to have Grey's or Survivor ratings immediately. Wake UP!! That's rare and replacing shows we just start to love with new shows will send us all to cable and DVD. The Class, Six Degrees, Black Donnelly's, Friday Lights, there are so many great shows cancelled/in danger it's disgusting. Nielsen means nothing - it doesn't truly measure what people are watching/taping/TiVO-ing/ LOVING !!!!!! WAKE UP NETWORKS

is why the hell that they suport a sopranos level drama such as "the black donnellys"
that should have been canceled after the third week
but since the black donnelly people who have degraded and mocked studio 50
to those people i say this: your show has fallen
you will NOT get away with your retarded excuses
any attempt to save "black donnellys" will fail
so those of you, so mocked "studio 60" , i suggest you write petition letters to the executives , before i get really pissed off at you people

First off Sue, I totally agree about MEN IN TREES. That OCTOBER ROAD piece of crap better get pulled. MEN IN TREES was doing REALLY WELL following Grey's, if the network people forget that they are, not surprisingly, shooting themselves in the foot again.
As far as these shows, all of them pretty much suck. For all those wanting the DONNELLY'S show back, newsflash: the STUDIO 60 folks were saying the SAME EXACT THING. NBC should have just kept that show on; atleast it had somewhat of a developed audience when it got pulled. And let's face it, neither show fit following HEROES. What they should have done is aired either BATTLESTAR GALACTICA or PSYCH after HEROES on Monday's. The audience would have stuck around. And besides, that DONNELLY'S show I still will not renig on the similarities it has to that Showtime show "Brotherhood."
Also I can't believe this, and it's not due to Ratings, but HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER being on the bubble is absolutely pathetic. The exec's at CBS need to get their heads out of their asses.

I'll tell you why The Black Donnellys and Studio 60 can't find an audience... Because the execs at NBC have their collective heads up their asses! These are the same guys that kept bouncing Scrubs around the lineup and not advertising what night it was on. That and the majority of this country has a deep love for Reality Crap shows.

Black Donnelly's was unbelievable from the start. I love how an Irish boy finds his way in to an Italian Mob Boss and blows him away. Yeah, that's believable. NOT!
As for Studio 60, no one ever got what that show was about. I never watched it, because the commercials for it never explained the show well enough to interest me. So I never watched it.

It's not so simple for shows to be picked up by the likes of HBO, F/X, or BRAVO. Shows like "BD" and "Smith" are expensive to make, and a lot of the costs are production, not people, so they cannot be trimmed all that much; even famous actors don't get paid a lot at first on these shows -- they have to wait for "hit" status to cash in. Heck, I'd love to see Smith, S60, and even Love Monkey make it on one of the cable networks, but money is a huge factor, at least when it comes to ordering new episodes. But why not burn off the unaired episodes this way? Or sell them as cheap downloads per episode? I have a feeling we are in the middle of a seachange in regards to how people watch TV, and it is going to really hurt the ability of new shows to gain traction/audiences. These days, the entire TV industry is like a B-movie backlot from the 1930s and '40s, when movies were made cheaply in a couple of days to pair with expensive main features. This isn't necessarily a bad thing and may actually help the networks when they start to realize that with DVRs and downloads, the viewers have gained a lot of control over what they watch and when they watch it. The very core of TV (making mass appeal product that appeals to the masses and therefore gets mass dollars from mass advertisers) is in danger. I think we'll see more new shows that are actually like mini-series -- say 6 to 12 episodes per show -- that begin and end in a fixed time period. Another reason why dramas fail to gain enough viewers early is that we are all tired of getting sucked into a storyline and have it yanked away so early that we're left without closure. An earlier blog entry bashed NBC for "only caring about itself." That's a laughable statement; of course NBC shares the same sentiment as all networks, since they are all major corporations: make us lots of money as cheaply and quickly as possible. How can viewers really expect anything else?

I don't know why any of this is a surprise. They cancelled Boomtown. The best cop drama on primetime tv since H:Lots, which incidentally they also meddled with, and then cancelled, which was the best cop show in the history of television. NBC is notorious for eating it's young. The days of giving Seinfeld room to breath (basically 2 and a half years to grow) ended a long time ago. They also appear to have no noticed that reality tv is imploding, that nearly all the shows, while cheap, are crashing and burning because they're tired. C'est La Vie.

Excuse me, but The Black Donnellys was really bad. I tried to watch the first episode, but it was so utterly boring and rediculously hard to follow that I turned it off about halfway through. Good riddance; but it is replaced by something that could be funny, but will probably grow old just as fast as Donnellys.
