Fate of Veronica Mars

With the fix already in for “The Gilmore Girls” we’ve been keeping a steady eye on the CW networks plans for “Veronica Mars,” it’s other Tuesday night show. Will it be back on the CW schedule for 2007-08 despite some lackluster ratings and an extended hiatus to make room for reality competition show “Pussycat Dolls Presents: The Search for the Next Doll?”

“We’re very much on the bubble,” explained show creator Rob Thomas. “I will say that the reports of our demise have been exaggerated. We are very much in the hunt for a shot next year.”

According to Variety, since “Veronica’s” return from hiatus May 1 the show has averaged 2.35 million viewers and retained 62% of its 18-34 lead-in from “Gilmore Girls” -- down from its CW premiere in October, when it drew 3.37 million viewers and held 77% of the 18-34’s.

Thomas has not pitched the tent in yet however, confirming rumors of a possible jump in time next season that would take Veronica away from her college setting and into the FBI.

“We pitched them two different versions of the show,” he said. “One with Veronica continuing in year two of college, and one in which we fast-forward four years and she’s an FBI agent. I don’t know which version they might order.”

Say it ain't so! I love Veronica Mars! There is NO OTHER tv show on that is as smart, sexy and FUNNY as this show! (Did anyone see Paul Rudd in the recent episode? C'mon - hilarious!) This is the only show on the CW that I even watch! How can you not? If they cancel it, they'll just put on more crap about skinny women in skimpy clothes - I think that's their new format at the CW. So watch Veronica - appeal to the honchos at CW that we NEED Veronica Mars. There definitely aren't enough smart, secure and sassy girls on tv!

This was the first season I was given the opportunity to watch the series since I never had UPN. I loved it so much, I went out and bought seasons one and two on DVD so I could catch up. But what's this I read about jumping time and putting VM in the FBI? Won't we lose a lot of the characters we already know and love with the college scene? I mean, c'mon! Piz is awesome! And Logan, Mac, Wallace? Hello! Where will they go? Surely they aren't going to join the FBI too. I don't know. I like my shows to progress naturally with time--well, as naturally as you can get with television programming. I seriously hope CW keeps Veronica Mars around for many more seasons. I'm enjoying the character development and the witty sarcasm. Such an intelligent show! We lack so much of that these days on TV.
