Cancelled: The Class and Jericho

It’s not been an easy week here at BBC HQ. With the network upfronts assault on full display shows have been made grist to the mill, including some viewer favorites like “The Gilmore Girls,” “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” and “Veronica Mars.”

Unfortunately, the blows just keep coming. While unveiling it’s new fall schedule today CBS also announced the cancellation of the comedy “The Class” and the nuclear apocalypse drama, “Jericho.”

“Jericho” started out strong last fall for CBS. However, like ''Lost'' on ABC and ''Heroes'' on NBC, many viewers abandoned the show after it went on a long midseason hiatus. Unlike those shows, it didn’t get the chance to stick around next year.

''We lost a lot of steam,'' said Kelly Kahl, CBS' chief scheduling executive. ''I know we had loyal viewers ... but the show sort of lost its engine and wasn't performing.''

Warner Bros. Produced show “The Class” also got the axe today despite our earlier plea for a second chance. The comedy, which had begun to grow a small audience, seemed to find it’s groove after a shaky first few episodes but ultimately the network hype surrounding it right out the gate seemed to weigh it down at the end.

That is so sad about the Class. I loved that show it was funny. I don't get how the Class gets cut but yet How I met your mother survives. I find that show not as funny. RIP The Class

So the class is gone. What about How I Met Your Mother?

That sucks that Jericho got cancelled, it was the only show CBS that had worth watching. Good job CBS, Good job.

I hate seeing quality dramas dumped. Losing Jericho and Veronica Mars plus the collapse of 24's quality means I will be pretty much left with Smallville, Battlestar Galactica and Heroes for fall 2007. I hate TV executives screwing up great shows (see Firefly).

Kirstie wrote:

Wow, CBS you really do know how to cancel great shows, including Early Edition, THRESHOLD, and now JERICHO...
TO THE FANS: Please email me at savethreshold@gmail.com to find out the strategies on saving this brilliant series, which hasn't "lost steam" or viewers (are you guys including the people who watch the episodes ONLINE?)
I've already sent emails to EVERYONE who adores Jericho... CBS if you cancel Jericho you'll lose TONS of viewers no matter what kind of new shows you throw on the air... I personally didn't want to watch Jericho JUST for that reason, after you cancelled Threshold.
Oh by the way, the LOYAL fans of Jericho are 'nuts' and are willing to do anything and everything to get the show picked up again... so consider yourselves warned...

Jericho was one of the best shows they cancelled i lost all faith in good tv on cbs im going on cbs cold turkey veiwing diet

So they cancel Jericho and replace it with what is guaranteed to be the fakest "reality" show ever? (seriously, unsupervised adolescents in an abandoned town? Half of them would be dead by the second week.)

Can we at least get a TV movie to tie everything up or what?

Jericho was the only show I ever kept up with. I almost feel like crying. The characters were amazing and the plotline was crazy. I'll definitely miss watching the episodes off the cbs site on thursday nights. :'(

I miss re-runs.
I'm very sad to hear that Jericho has been canceled. What can I say, I love disaster movies and this show just filled that desire on a weekly basis. This line right here: "“Jericho” started out strong last fall for CBS. However, like ''Lost'' on ABC and ''Heroes'' on NBC, many viewers abandoned the show after it went on a long midseason hiatus." drives me nuts!!
What do they expect!?! If the show isn't on for a month or two exactly how many people do you really think are going to keep their interest in it? Like I said to begin with... I miss re-runs.

how can i start a letter wrtiting campaign to save jericho?

bummer about jericho. liked that show.

Dan Steinmiller wrote:

Regarding "Jericho" - who cares that show had the worst concept out of all the new shows from its tv season. As for "The Class" - what in the hell is wrong with you CBS! This show did what few shows did in the last few tv seasons: it started out rough and then just got better and better with each new episode that followed. I still can't believe this sh*t... screw you CBS and the horse you rode in on.

Black Mamba wrote:

All I have to say regarding "The Class" is what took CBS so long?! This show was awful! The writing was horrific, and the acting even worse! I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did! Good riddance.

Lea Carpenter wrote:

You can't be serious about Jericho being cancelled, why would they do that. So many people where hooked on the show. It is one of only three shows on Television I make sure to watch every week. Well I guess I only have two shows a week to watch now. Thankfully they are not on CBS.

Forshorn wrote:

"The Class" wasn't the most original show ever, but it made me laugh out loud. This is mostly due to its talented and likable young cast and distinctive characters. It was also original for a sitcom with its large ensemble of characters and varied sets - not one room where the neighbors pop in. The show had heart; you didn't laugh at the hapless characters, but identified with their very human troubles. "Rules of Engagement" is just depressing and cynical.

Pat Smouse wrote:

Continuing in the grand American tradition of arguing with networks about their boneheaded decisions to cancel shows, there is a campaign to convince CBS that they really do want to renew Jericho. Hey it happens about once a decade or so...

Tony Dunn wrote:

This has to be a first for all networks. I have never seen so many shows cancelled in one season then this one. Have the networks gone insane? No. Money is behind this. If a show is not getting a high enough rating then the network sees it's advertising dollar shrink and the show is cancelled. I believe that next season will be no different. In fact, reality shows are much cheaper than sitcoms and drama series. There are no high cost actors or studios to pay. TV took a turn for the better in the 90's and into the new millenium. But younger network exec's and untalented network brass are starting the reverse trend of money first and money second. We the loyal viewers who continue to watch programs are the victims of these so called network serial killers. I hope some network wakes up and notices the loyal viewer instead of the almighty dollar. But, we all know that that's just a dream.

walter wrote:

I am or was a TV junkie and I miss it. I loved television but now all of the networks suck. Every new season I get hooked on a few new shows and every thing is good for the first two weeks and then the show just vanishes. If I am lucky it comes back in three weeks or it is just gone. The networks suck now and have for a the last five years or so but an end is coming. They are going to feel the pinch on their bottom line real soon. Advertisers need them to make money and if they can't keep an audience happy the ad men won't be buying anymore time on their networks. 24 will be the only show where they can make money.

Veleda wrote:

That sucks about the Class...I so wanted to see who was going to hooked. I was justed getting into the show good.

Steve wrote:

Fans of Jericho need to help fight for a second season by visiting www.jericholives.com. We have already delivered over 6,000 lbs of peanuts to CBS and swamped them with emails, faxes and letters. But we need your help!

James Hamelin wrote:

Way to go, Eye! I may be Canadian, and perhaps my voice does not count, but the cancellation of 'The Class' and 'Jericho' were just bad decisions. Close to home died out fast with all the changes to the storyline and the characters. However, the other two were great programs which should have been given more time to develop. As people can see here, these were shows with loyal followings. But then again, when have TV execs EVER known anything about good tv?
Sad day, indeed!

Barbara B. wrote:

I am soooo disappointed that CBS canceled "The Class". What is worse is that they chose "Rules of Engagement" over the "The Class." Each Fall I get excited about new shows, but then the ones I really like do not get much of a chance and get canceled before they are even given a chance.

I am going to give up on the networks.

Jericho was one of the best shows on tv. All the great shows get canned. Freaks and Geeks, Jericho, just to name two. Tv executives think they know what they are doing but if they would take their heads out of their asses they would see they dont know Sh*t!

BRING JERICHO BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so disgusted with CBS, and so disapointed over the cancellation of The Class. How can you leave these on the schedule- the idiotic reality shows and shows like 'Rules of engagment'and 'How I Met Your Mother' (which has all the charm and entertainment value as a root canal), but cancel the only truly new, entertaining programming you've managed to come up with in a LOONNNNG time?
So, you've cancelled The Class and Jericho.......two of thevery few redemptive shows on your network!

What is wrong with you people? A small, steady following wasn't sensational enough? I believe both these shows would have stood the test of time, and built an even bigger fan base as time went on. I, for one, will NOT be watching your network on Monday nights anymore-and doubtfully much of the rest of the week either. CBS, I'm highly disappointed in you.

nia wrote:

I absolutely adored The Class, and really lost respect for CBS for cancelling it. I don't find How I Met Your Mother to be funny, but The Class made me laugh out loud. What a great cast. Good luck to all the actors who worked on the series.

Carrie wrote:

I CANNOT believe CBS cancelled The Class, that show had me laughing so hard at times I would cry! I don't normally watch any CBS programs, but The Class was the only one... so, just one more viewer you now PERMANENTLY lost CBS... Kudos, on cancelling the only show worth watching on your station!!!

GINA wrote:

My husband and I we so looking forward to the second season of The Class. we love the CBS Monday evening line up and truly feel that The Clas would have fit in again this season perfectly. Thanks for another disappointment, CBS.

c wrote:

There has not been a good sitcom since Freinds. The Class was a good start. The Class did make me laugh out loud. Not too many shows have ever done that. I will mourne the Class.......

Sandra wrote:

We kept waiting and waiting on "The Class" to return..could not wait until it came back to see what was going to happen. Loved the Characters. Loved the storyline. Then we read here that it is not coming back?? Boo Hoo! We are very dissapointed!
