Nick vs. Jessica’s Dad, Again

September 15, 2006

insideroutsider_jsimpson_320x240.jpg
Because the then-virginal Jessica Simpson refused to sign a prenup, Nick Lachey is entitled to half of the couple’s assets. Their worth is estimated to be in the $30 million range meaning Nick should score about $15 million. Joe – the omnipresent dictator in Jess's life – apparently offered her husband $1.5 to walk away from the marriage believing the heartbroken lad wouldn't want to brawl it out in court. He was right, but underestimated the former boy band star's ability to add. Nick didn't want to go to court and battle his former wife (and heavy-hitting papa) but rejected the insulting offer. An out-of-court agreement was recently reached where Mr. Newlywed would get more than $1.5 but less than $15. Bet Nick's just glad he won't have to deal with Joe again.

That goes to show you that Nick Lachey did love Jessica for her and not her money. Most men would have taken half and then some in the process of divorce. In the end, Nick is better off without her. At least he can stand on his own two feet. Jessica may but I highly doubt it, that she made a horrible mistake. Letting a so-called friend tell you that you will never get to experience anyone else but Nick is really shallow. I guess the bug must of stuck in her ear since you saw her with someone different first. Sorry to tell ya honey but ya boobs won't get that far.

Nick had more money than Jessica when the marriage started, so obviously he coulded have been after her money.

L wrote:

You are right, Jessica Simpson did make a horrible mistake...Not getting a pre-nup. Sorry Shawnn but if Nick really wanted to stand on his own two feet, then he he would be leaving with what he makes and what they earned together( i.e.,from joint projects)--Not going after hers.

MMont wrote:

Nick is so much better off without her. He obviously loved her and he proved that. There was just something not right about the weird relationship that Papa Simpson has with his daughter.

Both my husband and I were very very dissapointed thast we no longer have - Still Standing and Out of Practice on TV. They have put Still Standing on repeats but that just isn't good enough. Loved the show.

L said "Sorry Shawnn but if Nick really wanted to stand on his own two feet, then he he would be leaving with what he makes and what they earned together( i.e.,from joint projects)--Not going after hers." I think you might have misread the post, L--It said that $30M is the couple's worth, not Jessica's alone.

Babs wrote:

I believe the marriage was doomed from the get go. Nick was mature and really in love. Jessica is a little girl who needs a daddy to take care of her. If you watched "The Newlyweds" she has a lot of growing up to do. Once married without prenup it does become joint assets. The court will usually split. I wish them both luck.

L wrote:

Respectfully, I didn't misread the post. The whole debate began in the media because Jessica's earnings brfore and during the marriage far exceeded Nick's. Without the pre-nup Jessica's (sole earnings) income is seen only as "the couple's assets." Which is why the Nick had to petition to have her part with the cash and why her Dad tossed a menial offer out there.

It's kinda of like Kevin telling Brittany he wants half if they split. Nick's no Kevin [so don't have a cow because of the comparison] i.e. he does have his own income/life...but the joint worth of BK {also sans pre-nup}, if they were to split today, wouldn't reflect Kevin's 50% contribution now would it?

BeeCo wrote:

Why is it that so many more people complain when a man who is (likely) the lower wage-earner seeks a substantial financial settlement, than when a woman does the same thing?

J. Escabar wrote:

Actually, there was no pre-nup because, at the time, Nick's potential earnings were higher than Jessica's. Her second album had just flopped.

I think she only became as successful as she did because of Nick, the relationship, and the tv show. I don't think it was her own talent alone that made all that money. I think he was entitled to half.

Cash wrote:

I think he's about as smart as a retarded cat. The girl is hot, rich and pretty much saved herself for him and the only kinky thing he could think to do with her was wear her shoes. Puh-leeze.

Lefty wrote:

Babs was write when she wrote that the marriage was doomed from the start. On their reality show you could see that Nick was a mature person while Jessica was extrememly immature. It's obvious that Jessica's father pulls her strings and probably always will. Jessica showed that she's a co-dependent person who needs a person to look after her and take care of her. While Jessica does have a great voice, she has made some terrible career choices and personal choices. The Chicken of the Sea comment was a warning light to Nick and it went downhill from there.

Courtney wrote:

As an avid fan of 'The Newlyweds' I do agree that Nick, the TV Show and her dilliness (real or fake) have made Jessica the 'star' that she is! She had two albums on the street prior to marrying Nick and neither album had netted her any 'real' profit e.g. $30M! The $30M earned during their marriage should have been divided evenly between the couple. I guarantee that if they would have never done the TV show she would still be the mediocre, dumb, Southern Belle that she was and still is!

Dragonblade wrote:

I have to agree with J.Escobar on this one: at the time they were married Nick was the popular one who had made a lot of money and had the most earning poetential. Jessica made the bulk of her money after their tv show.

Not saying that Nick's a saint, but he's just doing what anyone else would do in that situation. She was the one that didn't want to sign a pre-nup when they were talking about money that belonged to him. I'm sorry, but I just can't feel sorry for anyone that is as old as she is and still dominated by her father. I hope she does something to take the reigns away from him soon, or all her relationships will end up the same way.

I agree with the statment I copied. Jessica only got popular because she was dating Nick. Nick helped her get the job to open for his boy band because he thought she was hot. Then she had some records flop and they did the newlywed tv which helped her career. Jessica should take a look at Brittany and realize those looks won't last forever.

Tina M wrote:

Hey folks, let's all remember one thing. There are 2 or more sides to every story and every relationship. None of us knows what really happened in that marriage when the cameras weren't rolling. I think Nick is a great guy and I am not a huge fan of Jessica's but... what led up to her filing for the divorce? Did Nick cheat? What happened is something we may never know. It's just like Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe...no one ever expected them to split. As someone who has been through a divorce, I can say that you can speculate all you want but at the end of the day...only the 2 people in the marriage and God Almighty, really know what happened. Is it any of our business anyway?

Lilly wrote:

Jessica became famous because of the Newlywed Show. Nick is a great guy from all I have seen and heard and she was just too young and immature to be in a marraige. She also needs to tell her father to GO STICK IT!

leah wrote:

Nick may have been the more mature one, but Jess was the cash cow of the relationship. Whether or not it was because she was ding-y, blond, had good assets (hehe) is beside the point. The public became obsessed with the girl and she started rolling in dough. She did commercials, movies (I know, bad ones), had several products lines, etc. That was all money that SHE earned. She was never a gold-digger (afterall, Nick had more money going in and she never signed a pre-nup). Wealth isn't based on who was more mature, who we like better, who's a better person. It's based on popularity and Jess took the cake.

diana wrote:

I think that her weird father arranged the whole thing, he didn't want her to sign a pre-nup, thinking that she would get hers when they inevitably divorced. But that kind of backfired, didn't it? But let's face it, neither of them would be near as wealthy as they are now, if not for the their marriage and their show. So they should split evenly and go on to make a lot more money by themselves.

tarainga wrote:

Jessica only made more than Nick because she built her whole dynasty on her wedding (notice I did not say her marriage). There was a period of about 18 months where all anyone heard about was her fairytale wedding, then they got the MTV show about their first year of marriage--but that is how she bolstered her career--by marrying Nick, who at the time was a much more bankable star than Jessica. They built their net worth together--her horrible perfume deal and movie roles would not have come had she not signed the MTV deal--which as we know was not earned on her musical talent! And yes, the papa Simpson needs a shrink. They way he makes comments about how fantastic his daughter's chest is...my father would rather poke his eyes out with a stick than ever acknoweledge that any of HIS DAUGHTERS even have genetalia, never mind wax on about them!!!

kate wrote:

Jessica needs to seperate herself from her creppy father. Nick is too good for both of them!

No offense J. Escobar:

"Potential earnings" are like "Potential lotto winnings"-- the bucks don't count until you put'em in the bank.

Think about it...almost everyone is a 'potential' wage earner(heck lotto winner too for that matter). Hey, I'm not hating on Nick, that's just common sense.

& Kate: I don't have any kids that age, but I do have a Dad. If I got a divorce I believe he would be looking after my financial interests-not my Ex's~wouldn't yours?

L wrote:

I don't believe Jessica's Dad talked her into not getting a pre-nup(none of us know that). Like Brittney, young women make their decisions all too often with their hearts not their heads. Like many of you mentioned, Jessica was way more immature than Nick-in more ways then one; I prefer to call it naive. She was young (and as we all know innocent) and probably was dum enough to believe virginity matters to a man and that this marriage was forever; after all that is what her father taught her and what I'm sure she deeply believed.

Remember the promise ring? Well, it's a Christian thing that many secular people don't get; though not all Christians go as far as the ring. Some Parents symbolize it with a ring and others a simple vow to remain "pure" for your spouse. Recognize that many other non-infamous christians believe and teach their children this as a way of life. If you deeply believed that hype then why would you get a pre-nup?

If I can recall, this marriage was called off several times before because Jessica didn't understand the strip clubs and the girl fans(duh), or why if he loved her he wouldn't want to spend all of his free time with her. Who couldn't predict that unrealistic fairytale dream idea of marriage wouldn't last?

I mean, if you saw the early shows then you already heard why they broke up before the marriage. You also saw her going crazy when Nick had that strip club gig--and if you were watching then you witnessed Nick lie to her repeatedly to make her feel better and get the girl to stop calling him. Splice that into his lap dances with the babes and you can't chalk it all up to editing.

If editing is responsible for incorrectly painting Nick as a who guy that really didn't have all of his "youthful oats-sowing" out of his system and~if he faced up to it~wasn't as much ready for marriage as he was to get into Jessica's long off-limits pants and this lucrative show deal(and get publicity to boot)- than editing is also responsible for making Jessica look like an immature idiot when she's really Einstein's twin. Anyone care to buy the Brookyn Bridge?

Neither one of them were ready for that marriage, and both were hoping to boost their carrers from this series. Nick fans should not be whining about her career taking off as a result of the series.

As J stated before(that Potential thing) Nick assumed his earnings, i.e., record sales, videos, etc., would rocket as well. They had joint earnings as a result of this union which it is only right that they divide. But if she has to give him her earnings because he got her the gig and then she won the earnings race, then I have a few friends who got their start because of my assistance~and I need to collect my share of their cash.

P.S. That being said, I didn't know about the Dad's comment on his daughter's er...physique. ~gotta go with creepy on that one.:-@

Joe Simpson is a creep. Turning his Christian daughters into hollywood sexually charged wanna be singers for his own profit. his tv shows Newlyweds, Ashlee & the ryan cabrera music show were all run by Big Daddy S. I think the girls need to seperate themselves from their perverted dad & lead their own seperate lives. WHo knows maybe JEss will go back to singing Christian gospels?

Ok all you 'Nick deserves Jessica's money' believers: All in favor of K-fed getting half?

Weigh in on that. While you're doing that how sick is it that infotainment channels keep telking about what a great bargaining move it is for Kev to go after the kids? In a nutshell most entertainment analysts are saying how lucky he is to have those kids--as leverage that is. Many have been watching Brit's moves like a hawk, saying that her hanging out with Paris and Lindsay Lohan nights is giving him ammo to use in court.

Now, I'm no avid Spears fan but how sick is all that? Are we in new millenium or what? Do we still put all the responsibility on the mom and let dad off scot-free (or kid free until he needs cash)?

Like Brit has no one at home watching the kids? And where is K-fed a monastery?

Jessica, just be glad you didn't have any kids.
