For the past thirty years, the personal ups and downs of TV's leading anchorwomen have somehow become more newsworthy than the stories they’ve been reporting. Let’s take a look back:
In the 1970s, Barbra Walters became the six million dollar woman as co-host of ABC's Evening News. She failed to boost the ratings, and was at war with fellow anchor Harry Reasoner.
Walters re-invented herself as the newsmagazine co-anchor of 20/20, and reportedly found herself in constant competition with colleague and Prime Time Live anchor Diane Sawyer for the headline interviews.
Of course, Sawyer was not without her own struggle for legitimacy. She had come to ABC from CBS' “60 Minutes” where she was linked romantically to CBS founder Bill Paley.

As the fall 2006 season steams along at full speed, and as November sweeps dazzle us with hijinx, we thought we'd start rolling out some information on the 35 new shows coming to your midseason airwaves. Compiled here are the new reality and/or gameshows coming this season.
Greg Behrendt's Wake Up Call (ABC) -- In each episode, Greg Behrendt, author of He's Just Not That Into You, will address one couple's major issues and use his knowledge to give them the tools to fix their relationships.
Just For Laughs (ABC) -- This is a hidden-camera comedy series mixing clever practical jokes, hidden cameras, and unsuspecting victims. An updated Candid Camera, you might say.
Set for Life (ABC) -- In this game show hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, contestants compete to win a monthly payment for possibly the rest of their lives.
Show Me What You Got (ABC) -- Hosted by William Shatner, this trivia show includes a machine that raises and decreases prize money out of the contestants' control. Also, dancing girls wearing very little clothing.
Ex-Wives Club (ABC) -- A trio of famous "ex-wives" -- including Shar Jackson (the ex-Kevin Federline) and Marla Maples (the ex-Donald Trump) -- provide financial, relationship and makeover advice for the newly divorced or broken up.
The Singing Office (CBS) -- A music contest show which involves competing teams of corporate employees. They ambush an office, make them sing, and then pit them against each other in a contest reminiscent of "American Idol."
Name That Tune (CBS) -- A new version of the 1950s game and variety show is being produced with Donny Osmond as host. It will incorporate live musical performances and big cash bonus rounds with the familiar song guessing game.
The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll (The CW) -- This reality series follows a group of young women as they audition to join The Pussycat Dolls. Again. More women wearing very little clothing.
On The Lot (Fox) -- 16 aspiring director/filmmakers from across the country compete for a studio development deal at DreamWorks. The show is produced by Mark Burnett and Steven Spielberg.
