For the past thirty years, the personal ups and downs of TV's leading anchorwomen have somehow become more newsworthy than the stories they’ve been reporting. Let’s take a look back:
In the 1970s, Barbra Walters became the six million dollar woman as co-host of ABC's Evening News. She failed to boost the ratings, and was at war with fellow anchor Harry Reasoner.
Walters re-invented herself as the newsmagazine co-anchor of 20/20, and reportedly found herself in constant competition with colleague and Prime Time Live anchor Diane Sawyer for the headline interviews.
Of course, Sawyer was not without her own struggle for legitimacy. She had come to ABC from CBS' “60 Minutes” where she was linked romantically to CBS founder Bill Paley.
