It was jolting to see a number of American winners not make the trip-including Alan Arkin and Jennifer Hudson. It felt almost rude. Buzziest stars there were Sienna Miller, Daniel Craig, rising star James MacEvoy (Last King of Scotland), Toni Collette, and snubbed, adorable Abigail Breslin. Also great to see resilient Kylie Minogue present too.

Another fresh touch--the big tribute is given after "best film" was named (The Queen). This one was given to an older female editor who gave a funny, heartfelt speech.

So then, as a nice chaser, I popped over to the Grammy's. Who could skip through their TIVO this year? There were more You Tube-worthy showstopping performances than ever.

Like with this past January's Golden Globe Awards -- who needs a host? Keep the performances coming. The clever set with its big marquee. Proving that there was no excuse for MTV's Video Music Awards to have two lame years in a row, this year's Grammys performances came in rapid succession-perfect for today's ADD viewers.

The Police reunion has been a dream of mine since high school. Aware of their stormy relationships from Behind the Music, nice to see them hold hands at the end. However, "Roxanne" was a tease. I wanted a medley.

Mary J. Blige turned it up more emotional Be Without You than ever. Maybe she could get an Emmy nomination for that song. I had to watch sizzling Shakira and Wyclef's Hips Don't Lie two times.
