I feel the same about this show - it's really well written, acted, filmed, edited - makes me feel like I'm watching HBO, actually. I have to say, that it has allowed me to re-live high school and am having a much better time living through these characters than I did in real life. And I love that the cheerleader gets dumped!

I've watched this show since the premier episode and absolutely fell in love with it....The storylines are great and the show isn't afraid to take risks. They can't cancel a show like this, we need to get the support ot make sure it remains on television.

The show started a little slow but it has turned into a masterpiece. It is TRUE America. This show is more like the real lives of everyday Americans than any of the shows that portray yuppity teenagers living life in a world oblivious to everyone around them. I grew up in the midwest where every week revolved around the big game on Friday night, and you know what I loved it. It was an event: the players, the parents, the fans, the cheerleaders, the marching band. Now I've since moved away and have not been to a game in years, but this show brings me back to that time in my life every week.
It would be a shame to cancel it.

this show sneaks up on you..while I will admit there are some characters that seem unnecessary (Lila for one) there's so much about this show to love. It started for me as a tv show I could watch with my husband, and now it's a not to miss show for both of us.

The beauty of Friday Night Lights is that it teaches values & ethics without being too syrupy sweet & holier than thou. We are reminded that love relationships, teamwork & friendship are what truly matter in life. And kudos to NBC for including a wheelchair bound main cast member, and in such a positive light, and with no "he's suddenly cured" nonsense either.

I LOVE this show! I have tried to tell everyone I know to watch it and will be really disappointed if it is not renewed! The acting is great - love coach and his wife, but all the "kids" are also doing a great job with their roles. Best show on tv by far!!!

Yeah, this could be a good show about high school football, they only have to start SHOWING some high school football! Geez, every week this is like a disease or tragedy-of-the-week! JUST SHOW SOME FOOTBALL, games, practices, or at least TALK about it! And how long is this supposed to take place in? I guess about 3-4 months, but the amount of disasters and personal trials that so many of these characters have gone thru could fill up a lifetime of Murphy's Law himself! This is what bogged down American Dreams, another of NBC's misbegotten attempts at dramas with a theme. That one had American Bandstand as the main focus, but then they started with so much melodrama that they just forgot about the primary theme, and thats what this show has undergone, also. Put a fork in this sad sack, cause this baby's DONE!

This is a fantastic show. Surely they are not suggesting canceling it? I think it needs a better night to be on. Perhaps Friday nights! There sure isn't anything else on to watch. I love all the characters. I live in the south and football reins here. I will be devastated if it gets cancelled. The actors are just phenomenal.

I love this show. Everything about this show..and it is killing me thinking that it might be cancelled. It is also scary cause I know how these things work, and I am a little jadded with networks. I have to give props though in this situation cause they are standing by this show so far, and I appreciate that so much.
I would hate for this beautiful story to end to soon..and this show grabs up more people cause thats what it does. :)

Great Great show. The first few episodes made me afraid that this would be a show with characters based on stupid stereotypes, and they would have no depth (spoiled white cheerleader, boisterous black running back, lazy white trash fullback, etc. etc.). Lights has become so much more. These characters have developed into real people with real personalities. It would be terrible for such a well-written and acted show to go away. I’m just afraid it will see the same fate as Boomtown did a few years ago. I guess if a show isn’t full of thoughtless “reality” junk it can’t make it.

I, too, am a huge fan of this show. However, one thing that your article made me want to point out is that most of its regular cast members [except for one or two] are over the age of 20 and not teenagers. I'm not trying to take away anything from their performances, as I think they're all brilliant. In fact, I think it's a testament to their acting ability that they're all believable as 15-17 year old high school students. I hope NBC doesn't make an even bigger fool of itself than it already has this season by cancelling this wonderfully crafted and SCRIPTED show. It's so refreshing to finally have something on TV with compelling characters [and actors] that doesn't need to resort to special effects or out-of-this-world plot twists. If NBC throws in the towel, any chance of another network picking it up? The CW could definitely use some quality programming to replace it's pending and possible cancellations [ie. 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls, and Veronica Mars].

I've watched the show from the start and continue to watch it every week.. Please do not cancel the show due to low ratings because out there somewhere is somebody else just like me... I want to know what happens to Coach Taylor and his family do they move to Austin? And what happens to the team and players after the play for at State how are their lives changed?
so please keep it around for another season.

I actually only started watching this show about three months ago after borrowing a friend's tapes. Once The O.C. was cancelled, this became the only true teenage/family/relationship drama on the air (though I sorta like One Tree Hill, the people on that show are NOT teenagers).
This show is truly fantastic, well-written, and enjoyed by all ages. Coming from Texas - well, this is truly a great example of a small Texas town - and my students (and I) love it! We talk about it before class starts the day after it airs. I hope it stays on the air, and wins lots of awards!

Seen the (weak)film loosely based on the events of the Permian High School. I live in Texas seen it, been through it, don't need it. Granted its true football is life down here. When i heard about this show I thought why. Didn't everything that needed to be done or said get basically covered in the film. Granted it can go more in depth and isn't doing the 1988/89 team story but still why? This is a show that can't last more than a few seasons anyway. This show was predictable I tuned in for the first few episodes and I knew right off the bat that the QB was going to get injured. Sure enough he was. It's just not a very strong show and a concept that doesn't need to be done for TV especially after a film although fairly bad has already made it with virtually the exact concept. The TV show isn't much of an improvement. Sorry!

I echo Mikes comments above! The film was VERY overrated, and what more can be said or done to this show in a weekly-or is it WEAKLY, lol- series that hadnt been done in the movie. How much can Smash, for instance, go thru in a 3-4 month span? He was the star RB, had some speed probs, started using steroids, got caught, had rehab, and now hes back to normal! Did he have any legal or eligibility court trials? Apparently not, they just swept it all under the rug! I guess the producers cant come up with any realistic drams that a dilemna like this could bring, or else they would have beat this dead horse to death, also! I cant renew this, sorry,"kids", NEXT!!

I agree with most of the posts here - Friday Night Lights is one of the finest dramas in television history - with one of the best female lead roles in television history- i.e. the Coach's wife, "Tami Taylor" as played by Connie Britton - strong, smart (without being a B**** no less) and loving of her family and the young adults she councils - this is in fact a landmark acting performance for television.
The problem is this show IS real - and in post-911 America - we do not want to see real - we want more "Heroes" & "Battlestar Galactica" & "Stargate" (great shows all but imaginary), plus the constant game shows and other meaningless drivel (see the network shows of ABC and CBS except for "Lost").
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this "reality" show doesn't disappear!!!

I agree! this is one of the best shows on TV today. It cannot be canceled. It creates drama that any kid could go through. This show is realistic and hooks anyone watching it, in a second. The cast portray themselves as teenagers and solve problems like a high school kid would. This show should not be canceled, thats all.

I look forward to this show every week it's on. I think the filming technique is what provides part of the intrigue. It's a keeper in my book. Unlike so many other shows on television, the characters in Friday Night Lights are believable, and some of the mundane aspects of life represented in the show also keep it real. I really hope they do not cancel it anytime soon.
